LITERARY MAP OF WARSAW

The purpose of IB1 Polish A group trip to Warsaw was not only to relax and spend a pleasant time together but also to follow the footsteps of Polish writers and visit places connected with their lives and creative work. The students started by visiting the National Museum and watching variety of still life paintings by Italian and Dutch masters, about which they had only just read in essays by Zbigniew Herbert. With their accommodation near the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary nunnery in Krakowskie Przedmieście, the students would many times pass the statues of Bolesław Prus and Father Jan Twardowski as well as sit on his bench. At the Museum of Literature in the Old Town, they made a journey to the world of Adam Mickiewicz and had a look at different memorabilia of the poet's times. In the evening, the students paid a visit to Laurenty's, the writer, study in the humorous play "Na czworakach" ("On All Fours") by Tadeusz Różewicz at the Polonia Theatre, directed by and featuring the excellent Jerzy Stuhr in the leading role. On Saturday morning, they visited the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, POLIN, where they faced a beautiful and difficult history. The two days in Warsaw passed quickly, brought lots of valuable experiences, knowledge and reflections, but above all, it was a good time of sharing and being together.
