Year IB1 and IB2 – International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

IB1 - year 1 of IBDP (year 11 of education)
IB2 - year 2 of IBDP (year 12 of education)

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is one of the leading international programmes taught curently in schools all over the world, comprising the last two years of high school / pre-university education.

The distinguishing features of IBDP are:

  • ensuring pre-university qualifications recognized by higher education institutions worldwide;
  • promoting intercultural understanding and open-mindedness;
  • providing holistic educational experience, involving intellectual, emotional and social development of a student;
  • encouraging curiosity, critical thinking skills, in-depth analysis and reflection.

Learning in IBDP lasts for two years and constitutes equivalent of year 11 and 12 of education. Students choose 6 subjects from the following subject groups: (1) Studies in Language and Literature, (2) Language Acquisition, (3) Individuals and Societies, (4) Sciences, (5) Mathematics, (6) Electives. Students need to choose at least 3 but no more than 4 subjects at Higher Level, and 3 or 2 (in case 4 subjects have been chosen at HL) subjects at Standard Level. Standard Level subjects take up 150 teaching hours. Higher Level comprises 240 teaching hours. The core components of IBDP, compulsory for each Diploma candidate, are the course of Theory of Knowledge, participation in Creativity / Activity / Service programme and the Extended Essay (a 4000-word written work on a topic chosen by a student).

In the school year 2018/2019, ISE offers the following subjects in IBDP:

♦ group 1 Studies in Language and Literature: Polish A, English A
♦ group 2 Language Acquisition: English B, Spanish ab initio, German ab initio
♦ group 3 Individuals and Societies: Global Politics, Business Management
♦ group 4 Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
♦ group 5 Mathematics: Mathematical Studies SL, Mathematics Standard Level and Mathematics Higher Level
♦ group 6 Electives: any extra subject from groups 2-4 above
